As the earth stirs, awakens, and shifts with the spring, there is much to note and even more to savour.
Some years, spring has a sort of 'blink and you'll miss it quality about it. Perhaps it's the wave of energy to busy ourselves that we embrace after the long, cold winter releases us from its cosy cocoon.
Or perhaps it's the knowledge that these in-between seasons can feel all too fleeting where we live. Or maybe, just maybe, it's the fast pace and buzz of the outside world that can cloud our minds so that we forget to appreciate what's right in front of us.
Whatever the case may be, we find that spring always inspires us to delight in the little things; the unassuming moments that remind us that life is meant to be savoured. And when we do, each moment seems to linger a little bit longer in our lives.
With this in mind, here is our list of simple joys to savour and seek out this spring:
The scent of newness in the air.
Fresh, leafy greens.
Hours spent in the garden.
Sun hats and cotton kerchiefs.
Little buds on the trees inching their way toward blossoming.
A fresh set of sheets drying outside on the line.
Wavy, rattan details.
Marmalade on toast with fresh, salted butter.
Walks around the neighbourhood.
Floral patterned dishes.
The sound of bird song, rain tapping at your window, and the familiar voices of neighbours out and about the fresh air again.
Sipping coffee on the front porch.
Wiping off muddy paws at the door.
The first thunderstorm of the season.
Rhubarb everything; pies, muffins, crumbles, tarts, compotes, simple syrups and shrubs...
