A Bit of History
For thousands of years, glass blowing has been a part of Egypt’s cultural heritage. The earliest recorded glass like material was found in the Dahshur region, which was used for mosaics & beads. Today, Cairo’s glassblowers have taken a more sustainable approach to the craft. This is through collecting used bottles from around the city, washing, sorting, breaking and melting them in a 1500 degrees Celsius kiln and finally mouth blowing them into a variety of shapes to create imperfect forms with tiny bubbles that represent the material’s once liquid state.
