Oh, the holidays. A time to delight in nostalgia.
The holiday season is one filled with a rather unique sense of wonder.
A time when we replace any hints of decorative indifference with unadulterated glee… a sprig of holly here, your favourite ornament over there…
A time when reminiscing lovingly leads the conversations shared by generations around the table, and fills the quieter moments of solitude as we tidy up from the boisterous evening.
For amidst the beloved rituals and familiar snowfalls, it is difficult to avoid the familiar invitation to delight in the wondrous warmth of nostalgia.
Now, could the ‘delighting in nostalgia’ really just be a tempered expression of the pure joy we wish we could feel once again?
If there is one thing we feel sure about, it is the opportunity Christmas provides us to embrace a childlike sense of wonder and delight.
And what a wondrous opportunity it is.
This year, we’re leaning into unhindered delight; the palpable, achievable, and simple joys found at this time of year.
Joy in the beloved baubles we unbox every year, eager to find the perfect places for them within the tree;
Joy found in collapsing in a relaxed heap on the sofa, lit only by the light of the tree and a few flickering candles nearby;
Joy found in the yearly feast featuring dishes old and new… dad’s famous mushrooms and your sister's latest iteration of potatoes.
We hope the holidays finds you warm and bright. Ready to embrace those simple joys with that same unhindered delight you felt when you were young.
Because in a world as intricate as ours, what a wondrous opportunity that is.
