“Her pleasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges, and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn - that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness - that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling.”
- Jane Austen, Persuasion

Resplendent Routine
Just outside our window, glimmers of gold catch the light, whispering through the trees.
The geese take flight - pattern in motion, a familiar retreat.
Earth's resplendent routine - cyclical, foreseeable, and quietly awe-inspiring.

With memories fresh and cups full from the summer sun, like the geese soaring above, we begin readying ourselves to return home for the season ahead.
Candles appear on ledges, we swap lightweight linens for welcoming wools, and boots replace sandals in the entryway.
We plan recipes, build our stack of bedside books high and mighty, and settle into a warm cup of tea on the porch, mirroring the sun settling into the skyline.

As the sun dips beyond the horizon, we finish up the last of our tea. We let our eyes linger on the starry sky, before returning inside.
Like the little volunteers floating down from the trees, Autumn has landed on our doorstep. Unhurried yet determined, inviting, and warm.
