The history of the nap dates back thousands of years, but the modern day nap originated in Spain with the traditional siesta.
Although the siesta had many practical purposes – especially in hot climates where people slept through the heat of the day – it has forever and always been our human need for sleep that draws us to a cozy corner or back to bed in the middle of the day.
We have been trying to find ways to curb those mid afternoon pangs of sleep with a moment of shut eye.
On the hunt for the perfect nap, we’ve found the perfect napping accoutrements. Handmade by local artisans in the Republic of Guinea our new bedrolls and floor pillows are hand-spun, hand-woven and hand-dyed.
We think they’ll come in handy for late afternoons outside after a picnic, unrolled in a cozy corner in your home, or laid out on your bed for extra cushion.
Most importantly, they’ll provide the perfect cozy backdrop for a glorious, mid-afternoon nap. And we think a moment of rest in the middle of the day is a worthy goal for all of us.
