Design for Life – Our Philosophy on Zero-Waste

In 2015, we formed MÛR – now JUNE – in part as a response to our entrepreneurial interests at that time in our lives, but also as a way to express our belief in living with fewer and ultimately better things. Living this way very much contributes to our happiness and well-being – it keeps us connected to daily life, and allows us to respect the objects we use and see them anew throughout their lifespan with us. In other words, it is important for us to maximize the utility value of the goods we surround ourselves with – give them a second life, share and repair them.

We are always striving to bring together products and objects that are unique, simple and well-designed, but which also offer minimal environmental impact. Those that do not create excessive waste, but help to reduce our environmental footprint and give meaning and focus to effective design solutions. Thoughtful design process, the use of natural materials, and time-honored methods of making allow for the innate physical and tactile qualities of each piece shine through.

Functionality plays a central role with everything we assemble in the shop, as well. Yet, in the same breath, each must be supportive of people’s unique everyday habits and rituals, and move beyond pure function – becoming objects to love and admire. We are always so excited to partner with and support like-minded designers and makers who craft useful, aesthetic objects for the home – that imbue innovation and help solve a little life problem or need. To live by a zero-waste philosophy, for us, is truly a matter of design.

We’ve highlighted five products that just so happen to fall within the zero-waste category.
