At Home With Amanda Jane Jones

We’re always excited to see how you choose to use our products in your home and we had the opportunity to take a look into the beautiful home of Amanda Jane Jones!

We’re huge fans of her beautiful photos and so we asked her a few questions to learn more about how her family, work, and approach to simplicity affects her life and home. We’re also excited to offer our congratulations to Amanda and her family for their new arrival last week! Welcome to the world Wesley!

We love the way Amanda has styled some of our favourite items and we hope you enjoy learning a little more about her and her family.

What are some of the ways you find quiet moments at home?

With two kids and welcoming a brand new addition, it’s easier said than done. We have places for books and simple boxes of toys in every room in our house. When things get loud, we can pull a new stack of books or a new activity and that gives me some moments of quiet. We also have deck swings that I can escape to when I need some quiet – our level is up in the trees, so it feels secluded and calm even in a busy city.

What’s your favourite thing to do as a family during the summer?

Family bike rides to Lake Michigan! Lake Michigan is my favorite thing about Chicago – it’s so close and where we live on the south side, it’s never very busy which means, it’s clean and calm. We’re at the lakeshore a handful of times each week.

What’s something you love about your home?

I love the tall ceilings and giant crown molding! It makes the space feel so much bigger than it is. We also get so much natural light in our dining room – once the dark winter months set in, it’s so nice to be able to enjoy every last second of the sun with our big windows. I’ve made an effort to create a calm and peaceful environment in our home since it’s where I work / spend most of our time so that we all enjoy being here. I’m a real home body and so are my kids, so it’s important to me that we create an environment they feel happy and comfortable and cozy in.

What’s your criteria for adding decor or new pieces to your home?

We have to really really love it. My goal is always to wait to buy something unless we find just the right one that we can use forever. I’m really drawn to classic / simple styles that hopefully we can use and love for years and years, and try not to follow trendy fads.

How does being a graphic designer affect the way you arrange your space?

So much! My style is simple, so our home is pretty simple too. Clean lines, a lot of neutrals but with pops of colors. My style has toned down quite a bit with age, and with kids! I think the more chaotic my life gets, the more simple and calm I need my surroundings to be.

What does simplicity mean to you?

I’ve thought about this a lot lately – for me it has a lot to do with organization. A family home just naturally has a lot of stuff, so I try to keep everything as organized as possible which makes clean up so much easier. I utilize closet space to the max and have fully embraced the Marie Kondo style of keeping everything organized in their own containers. Simplicity for me is also only keeping the things you love/need. This probably changes over time, but I think learning to let go of things that you don’t need really helps simplify things.
